How to Gingerbread on stock Vodafone Nexus One

If you don't want to wait until Vodafone pushes the OTA Gingerbread update here is a how to do it manually.

Step 1
First follow all the steps described on the Android Central forum

Step 2

  1. Download HBOOT 0.35 here
  2. Rename the file to update.zip
  3. Copy the update.zip to the root of your SD card
  4. Power off your Nexus One, then hold volume down while pressing the power button.
  5. Use the volume keys to navigate, choose the option that says recovery, and use the power button to select it. Your phone will soft reboot and you'll see a warning triangle with an green robot.
  6. Now hold the power button, and press volume up. You'll see a small menu in green text.
  7. Choose "Apply SD card: update.zip" from that menu.
  8. When your Nexus reboots back to the lockscreen, proceed to step 3


Step 3

  1. Download the FRG83D->FRG83G update here
  2. Rename the file to update.zip
  3. Copy the update.zip to the root of your SD card
  4. Power off your Nexus One, then hold volume down while pressing the power button.
  5. Use the volume keys to navigate, choose the option that says recovery, and use the power button to select it. Your phone will soft reboot and you'll see a warning triangle with an green robot.
  6. Now hold the power button, and press volume up. You'll see a small menu in green text.
  7. Choose "Apply SD card: update.zip" from that menu.
  8. When your Nexus reboots back to the lockscreen, proceed to step 4. Gingerbread Time!


Step 4

  1. Download the OTA Gingerbread update here
  2. Rename the file to update.zip
  3. Copy the update.zip to the root of your SD card
